What your league allows
Many rulebooks require visible undergarments to be a single color, often matching the jersey or sleeve, and the same for the whole team. Check before you choose a color.
Sleeve length
Long sleeves for cold weather, short or sleeveless for layering under pads. Teams often need more than one.
Fit
A base layer is meant to be close-fitting, and fit matters more than on any other garment. Size from the chart for this product, not from a jersey size.

Decoration
How artwork gets onto it
Base layers carry little decoration: a small logo at most. The fabric stretches a great deal, so any logo has to stretch with it without cracking.
